Selecting Colours & Designs of Listellos & Mosaics ...
Listello Definition & History:
A Listello can be defined as a narrow tile used to accent field tiles. Listellos have been used as an artistic decorative expression since 400 BC as long narrow band of sculpture that typically ran along the façade of a building. This concept has been modernised and scaled down over the years to create a similar effect (although now inside your home) as a decorative border used in conjunction with your wall tiles or mosaics.
Listello & Mosaic Choices
Budget:
Whether you are purchasing a new property or
renovating an existing one, it is a well known fact that kitchen and
bathroom decor significantly builds equity into your home. Listellos
can dramatically change even the most drab of tiles into a design statement
with a modest investment.
Should your budget already be stretched to the limit, a trick to reduce the cost of your tiling project is to use listellos with a cheaper selection of tile, which will make the whole area look more expensive, but without compromising the combined effect. Savings can be obtained by moderating the cost of the larger area with that of the listello while providing an exceptionally elegant finish.
Selecting the Colour & Design
The colour choice of listello will depend on the type of effect wanting to be achieved, whether you are going for sublime modernism, understated elegance, liveable chic, rustic tuscan or colonial charm, Deco Tile Designs have a listello option for you.
As our listellos come in a vast range of colours
to suit all décor requirements, youll be spoilt for choice
no matter what the desired effect required. It is important to note
that when deciding on a colour scheme and design, a few basic principles
should be noted:
If a dominant emphasis is the goal, contrasting but complimentary colours within the same sphere could be selected. Conversely, if a subtle emphasis is required, colour matching to the tile or selecting muted tones based on the accompanying tile should be chosen.
Colour
Colour saturation or intensity can provide the illusion of depth or space. For example a warm colour can appear to protrude while a cold colour appears to recede. Similarly a light tone can appear to protrude and a dark tone to recede. Before you select your design and colour, decide on the effect you would like to create for your tiling project and make your choices based on the goal. A good guideline principle is to start with monochrome colours and then add colour sparingly to reinforce the emphasis.
