A classical design based on the popular Acanthus plant leaves. Hailing from ancient Greece, this design was chosen for decorative purposes by the ancient Greeks due to the natural beauty of the leaves. The Acanthus, as an architectural ornamentation, became more popular from the 5th century BC - and is still as appealingly beautiful today in our homes as it was thousands of years ago in ancient Greece.
A classical design that will never go out of style!

European Mythological Figure
The Greenman is the name given to the leafy head of a man found carved in churches throughout Europe during medieval times. Although he dates back to these times, the exact origins of the Greenman are a mystery. Leafy heads such as his can also be found in Greek Mythology representing the 'god of thriving plant life and the god of the forest'. In Roman Methology, he is known as Bacchus / Dionysus - the Roman god of wine and song.

Bringing a hint of the outdoors indoors ... Typically the acorn tree is a symbol of care and rebirth - illustrating that where there is care and nurturing, something very small can grow into something very large. Subtle acorns and leaves adorn this tile to create a symmetrical and pleasing pattern.
Traditionally in the Portuguese culture, the rooster symbol in the home is known for bringing good luck to the occupants. In other cultures, the rooster was considered to be an exotic animal by the ancient Greeks - an animal with valour that even lions were afraid of! In the cult of Mithras, the rooster was a symbol of divine light and guardianship against evil. For Central Europe, the rooster was also believed to ward off evil and at the first crowing of the rooster, the devil would flee.
What we like best is the Talmud version that speaks of learning
courtesy to one's mate - when a rooster finds something good to
eat, he calls his hens to eat first!!

The Fleur De Lis Lily was claimed to have sprung from the tears of Eve as she left the Garden of Eden. From it's earliest records in ancient Greece, the Fleur de Lis has been a symbol of purity. Other explanations include those that the symbol was born from the image of a dove descending representing the Holy Ghost. The French modern version of this symbol (where it was reduced to three 'leaves') was commanded by Charles V in 1376. There are even records from 1611 that depict that the Fleur de Lis is is a distortion of the outline of a toad. Whatever the exact origin and explanation of this symbol, the most probable is that the Lily (now called an Iris) that grows on the banks of the Lys reveals clearly the 3 leaved symbol we know today when dried and pressed
